Building Permit Requirements

ADDRESS SHALL BE POSTED AT JOB SITE PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION
THE APPLICATION NUMBER IS REQUIRED TO SCHEDULE INSPECTIONS

THE BUILDING PERMIT SHALL BE POSTED AT THE JOB SITE: Ripley County has, by requirement of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, adopted Their Building Code under IC 36-7-8-3 and IC 36-7-2-9. Per these requirements a clear and understandable copy of detailed plans and specifications drawn to scale, which indicate in a precise manner the nature and location of all work to be accomplished. This applies to any building or structure that requires a building permit. Any building or structure that is 144 square feet or larger, requires a building permit. No permit shall be issued without the required building plans or pertinent structural drawings. I.e. Truss Sheet

The following inspections are required:

  • Footer / Hole inspection: Before Pour
  • Wall Inspection; Basement or crawl space: Before Pour
  • Underfloor Plumbing: Before Pour
  • Perimeter drain inspection: Before Backfill (No downspouts)
  • Framing and rough-in
  • 2nd rough-in (verification of code compliance)
  • Final inspection: EVERYTHING must be complete, including gutters and handrails in place, driveway culvert and permanent 911 address in place per Ordinance 1991-3.

ALL INSPECTIONS SHALL BE COMPLETED AND CODES MET BEFORE THE CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY WILL BE ISSUED.
